Urban Outfitters Jewelry: 5 Pieces to Shop for this Fall

Being a jeweler's assistant for over four years you really get to know materials. That "turn your finger green" metal is probably copper. Your piece is tarnishing after you swam with it (please don't)? Probably plated. Luckily, Urban Outfitters does a pretty good job with their descriptions...mostly. This is me just nitpicking for your sake.
Shop For...
1. Studio Grun Under The Stars Ring - 98

Studio Grun is a brand of handmade jewelry that uses Gold Plated Bronze and Sterling Silver as their metals. This ring is so dainty and the iridescence of the labradorite stone almost reminds me of a star sapphire (tho not the same thing). They accent the stone by using star prongs and if that isn't the dreamiest decision for this ring I don't know what is. Did I mention they stamp their designs, (as one should) so you know you're getting one of their authentic pieces.
Con: UO doesn't have the size listed. Their "one size" is probably a standard 7 or 8. Studio Grun's website has it from sizes 5 to 8 and you can purchase the ring in Gold over bronze or Sterling Silver.
2. Kyle CurbChain Necklace - 16

I'm going to be honest, this is really a money saver if you want to try out the chunky chain style.
What caught my eye is that it says in the description nickel and lead free. These tend to be two things people's skin reacts to in jewelry which can lead to skin irritation. Since it has neither of these things it's not likely that people who don't have sensitive skin react to it. However, just like I do with my skincare I keep an eye on things. Notice something different in you skin? Take. It. Off.
Con: As it says, this is not made to get wet. Or to sweat in it every day. It makes an affordable piece but if you want it to last longer you should follow the care instructions for plated jewelry.
3. Ellie Vail Gage Oversized Link Post Earring - 53

A saving grace for anyone whose skin reacts to bronze, nickel or copper. These earrings are made of 18k Gold-plated stainless steel. Stainless steel is hypoallergenic, tough and keeps itself polished pretty much FOREVER. Meaning, these earrings are great if you don't have a lot of experience taking care of jewelry.
Con: It doesn't say if they're solid or hollow. Some people don't like heavy earrings since it pulls on their ears and stainless steel can get a bit heavy. These are under an inch long 0.9 so it shouldn't be a problem just something to consider.
4. Ellie Vail Zelda Mini Hoop Earring - 50
A pleasant surprise to see a rival to my own 18k gold hoops! Which I love as my go to because it doesn't matter what style you've got on...they go with it. I've got the same positive things to say as their Oversized Link posts. What really surprises me about these is the color. Sometimes companies end up with this light rosy or light yellow color when they plate. These look right.
Con: Honestly I don't think I have one. More like a warning? If you break the hinge jewelers don't tend to repair stainless steel. Maybe if they have a laser to work with but even then you might as well buy a new pair for what that's going to cost.
*The second image is my own 18k solid pair. They could be twins!
5. Chunky Figaro Chain Necklace - 32

If you want a thicker alternative to the curb chain necklace this is it. It's pretty much costume jewelry so don't expect the gold plating on it to last forever but the big clasp makes it easy to put on and to replace should it happen to break. The extender is nice touch since 14 inches is usually above the collarbone for everyone especially if you're a guy.
Con: Since it sits near you're neck your body heat and sweat will affect the plating faster. If you have sensitive skin you might want to reconsider purchasing plated items that will rub against your skin often.
Even if you thought all these options were trash I hope I gave you some tips to guide you through the purchase. It's always best to look at the item in person but that's not always possible.
Take care!
